Curling is an old sport played by about 1.5 million men, women, and children in over 33 countries around the world. In the United States, there are over 15,000 curlers in over 135 clubs.

It is played indoors and out, by the young and old, for pure recreation and for all-out competition.

The northern countries comprise the bulk of the worldwide participation. With the advent of artificially refrigerated ice, the sport was opened up to many more locations that otherwise would not have been able to participate.
